Ant Cawthorn-Blazeby was a second generation founder member, with Nibs van der Spuy, of Landscape Prayers, one of South Africa’s most acclaimed instrumental bands, which released four stunning albums over a period of 10 years, 3 of which were SAMA nominees for best Instrumental album. Since 2003 Ant has worked with a number of projects, mostly in a Celtic direction with flautist Keri Povall and guitarist Ron Uken in CELTIS. Although he has been playing the blues now and again, mostly as a guest with Bobby and the Dynamites and Will’s Blues Band.
‘One of the things that got me into performing music was hanging out with the Backwater Blues Band for a brief time in Pretoria and Knysna at the very beginning of the 90’s. I was an avid Backwater Blues Band groupie and loved watching them play. And thought ‘ I want some of that!’ Further on down the road, when Joe Blu invited me on stage with them for a few guest solos, I felt ten feet tall and an incredible rush! And got totally addicted to performing, which habit I still haven’t kicked 20 years later. Or want to! So on some levels, the whole wonderful journey started out with the blues…’
