It’s going to be Black Water at this year’s Blues!

August 9th, 2019

“Black Water“ is not only an exciting addition to the South African blues- rock music scene, but an exciting addition to this year’s Durban International Blues Festival,” says Program Director, Will Wallace.

The event, which takes place at The Plant, Station Drive Precinct, Durban  on Fri 21st September promises a two day program with a line up to blow your blues (away).

“Black Water “ will be but one of the South African master bands who will share the billing with Canadian Pat Savage and the trio from Argentina, “The Yamil Jacobo Trio” on the Saturday night- well worth the R180 entry fee (tickets from Quicket) or R200 at the door.

Formed in 2015, with Martin Botha (guitars and vocals), Hannes van Wyk ((Bass) and Bennie Pretorius (drums), the three like to refer to themselves as “Blues for the Working Man “.

Listening to Martin’s voice- it is deep, dry, gutsy and raw and the band’s performance is sincere: it is clear music is a priority for all three of them as they present a powerful rhythm section, unique guitar tones and passionate vocals!

Just listen to their live act recording of “Leavin’ the station”– it’s impressive! There is a significant indication in this piece, of the band’s ability to blend genres.

It is also impressive to know that this tight three man set up have supported some of our favourite acts like Dan Patlansky and Gerald Clarke and shared the stage with Karen Zoid, Springbok Nude Girls and the legend, Piet Botha. Added to their credits is their two year in row appearances at the South Coast Bike Festival, their invitation to perform at the 2019 Stab Festival, and the use of one of their songs in KYKNET 4 Unseasonal promotion. The list goes on.

Go check them out in readiness for seeing them Live at the 2019 Durban International Blues Festival in September.
