The Jack Rabbit Slims is an electric blues band, based in Port Elizabeth. The band consists of frontman Rob Thompson on Guitar, Vocals and occasionally blues harp, Dave Daniel on bass guitar and Marcel Scullard on Drums.
The band is heavily influenced by Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn and Dan Patlansky among others, and in between their original songs might throw in a cover or two.
The band started in 2008 when Rob Thompson and Brad Chamen, persuaded Tim Robinson, who was mainly a Jazz guitarist at the time to play drums, and so The Jack Rabbit Slims was born. However things changed some what with the band. First with the introduction of Marcel Scullard as the new drummer, giving the band a vastly different feel, more solid and soulful, then later things changed again as Mr. Dave Daniel replaced Brad on bass guitar. The band have been working on original songs as well as covers to give an all round electric blues experience. With thundering guitar solos, solid bass grooves and tasteful, ballsy style of drumming, The Jack Rabbit Slims have a truly unique, but still vintage blues sound.
The band has mainly been playing the PE circuit, notably opening for Dan Patlanksy a number of times. As well as numerous other touring bands.
Other performances include: FIFA Fan Fest 2010, Durban International Blues Fest 2009 and 2010, Splashy Fen 2010 and 2011, Manville Four Winds Folk Festival 2009, 2010 and 2011.
In 2010, USA blues great, Ray Fuller heard the band perform when he was visting P.E. and was very impressed with the band. So much so that he organised a fund raising show with The Jack Rabbit Slims as his backing band.
